Kathe Kollwitz (Germany, 1867-1945) was one of the pioneers of socialist art. Her works (paintings, woodcuts, and sculptures) were one of the first to have captured the emotions of the unglamorous. Though not sought after by high society for adorning their walls, Kollwitz's work has inspired much of communist art. Pasted below are some of my favorites.
