Golden arches nostalgia

Different countries show different social attitudes towards McDonalds- In US and particulary in the classy UK, you don't get a lot of social respect if you have been dining at McDonalds. There McDonalds is for tourists and poor east europeans and africans. Whereas in India, going to Mac is a great family affair even for the affluent middle class. One can say thats because McBurgers are expensive enough given the PPP of our country (though the Rs 20 burgers are a big hit) to keep out the lower economic strata. But I have seen the same favorable family attitude in Norway (the most developed country in the world), where families love to feast at the Mac. Of course, in Norway everything else (except 7/11 hot dogs) is too expensive for even the well-off locals to enjoy.
Now there is this huge backlash by the anti-obesity movement against the McStyle foods. The documentary "Super Size Me", where-in the director Morgan Spurlock subjects himself to a month long diet of only Mcfood, showed scientific evidence of becoming overweight through Mcfood.
As for me, my attitude towards the Golden arches have also changed. When I was in Londoan 4 years back I could have a Burger almost every day. Nowadays I cant have it more than once a month and after having it I feel loaded the whole day. However, I shall always have fond memories of McD. In Sweden, a 24-hour McDonalds gave me shelter in a freezing night when I didnt have a hotel to stay in. And any new place I go to, the sight of Golden Arches assures me that I shall not go hungry.

If everything (else) is too expensive for most in Norway, then in what sense it is the most developed country? Just asking!

Norway is rated No.1 in the UN human development index. Noway doesn't have many obscenely rich people like in US or UK. But their poorest are much much well off. A plummber makes the same salary as an MBA at the begining of their careers (approx 15-20lakh rupees/year)
